All our learning about WELL BEING topics we learnt in Term 1 2016

As a part of our topic this term about Well Being, we have been learning about the following -

All about me
My Family
My Friends
My Healthy ME
My class and My school as a part of My Environment

You can see the pictures of our work below...

Social well-being - Me and Myself, My family relationships, friendships,  feelings. We have been learning how these are important for our Well Being
Learning about Myself and sharing about My Feelings.  We made All about me Wheels. We drew pictures to show our interests and what we are good at. We drew pictures of myself and painted using appropriate colours and made self portraits of my special ME..

We drew pictures of the people in my family and wrote about them. we wrote about what we like doing at home with my Mum, Dad, Nana, Grandpa, brother or sister. We shared our ideas about helping each other in a family.

We made friendship hands joined together to show our caring and sharing attitude we have developed in our class. We help each other, we use our manners and respect each other. We help others to do well at school and are happy for our friends.
We made OUR CLASS STONE WALL -

Physical well-being - My Healthy ME
Looking after ourselves by eating healthy food, drinking plenty of water and doing exercises to keep us fit is good for the well being of our body.

As a part of our learning, we made food pyramid. We first shared ideas about healthy and unhealthy foods. we cut pictures of all types of food from magazines. Then we sorted them into eat less, eat a little and eat more. This helped us to see the foods we have to eat to keep us healthy.

You can see the food pyramid we made in our groups.

Looking after our environment as a part of our well being

We know environment is the place around us. At school we put rubbish using proper rubbish bins. we use green bins for paper, blue bucket in class for worm farm and take our food wrappers home and some rubbish in our class rubbish bin.
At our school, we are so lucky to have a MOKOMOKO built in our playground for us to play. We are now learning all about MOKOMOKO's in Room 9 and will be learning more about the reptiles and Myths and legends about Mokomoko's in New Zealand.

Making Bird houses

In Room 9 we have been learning about why we want birds to  visit our garden and help birds to move out of our roof so they can be safe by living in bird houses.

We made bird houses for birds. we will hang some of our bird houses in our school garden. we will make sure to put some grains and a water cup for the birds to eat and drink.

We used cardboard to make a box. Then we made a hole in the cardboard for the bird to go inside.

We painted it, then we used leaves, dry grass, hay, sticks and glued them on the top of the bird houses.

We used leaves, hay, sticks and dry bark to stick on our bird houses, so the birds can feel comfy like in a nest.

Did you know................

  •  some birds can save our garden by eating some insects that eat up the garden.
  • Bird poo is good for the garden soil.
  • Birds carry pollen from one garden to another and help grow fruits and vegetables.
  • Some birds drop seeds and help new plants to grow.

Creepy Crawlies

Our learning about Creepy Crawlies

We made spiders.
We now know spiders are not insects. they have eight legs and two body parts.

Insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts.

Our Insect Hunt Findings

We went on an insect hunt. We found worms, snail, slugs, ants, cockroaches, grasshoppers in our school garden. we made a home to keep these in our classroom. we observe them everyday to see how they move and observe their body parts.
