It was time to go to the Ambury farm. We went on a bus to the farm. I saw a white lamb and a cow. The farmer was milking the cows. It was a big cow and its name was Rex. We ate morning tea. Then we went to feed the lambs and the chickens. I saw a pig rolling in the mud. I saw the little piglets too. They were playing. The pig jump on the little piglet. They were having fun.
Then I fed the hens. They went Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! I saw a big black mother hen. She was sitting in a nest. She was laying an egg. I was watching the egg. The hen was incubating the egg. I also saw a sheep dog sitting on the motorbike. Then we went to see the lambs. I touched the lambs wool. I was feeling the wool. I was smelling it too. I was feeding all the farm animal’s. We were having a lot of fun.

Room 9 Writing this week
Hi I am Brooklyn. This is me writing about a my experiences when I went to my grandpa's house by the beach.
Hurray! It is holiday time. I went to the beach with my grandpa. I picked up a seaweed. I said " What is this grandpa?" My Grandpa said, " Leave it. Its the treasure of the beach."
I asked grandpa, "what is seaweed?" Grandpa said "it is the plant that grows in the sea and fishes like to eat it. It is slimy."
So I put it back in the water for the fishes to eat it. I had a great time at the beach.

If a dog is on it's own, leave it alone. If a dog is with it's owner we need to follow simple steps.
We first ask the adult that the dog is with if they are allowed to pat them, then asking the dog which is one of the important thing for us to do and the dog will give us some clear signs if they are unhappy.
We also learnt how to pat a dog in a way that's not mean or bossy.
We thank Bark NZ team for helping us learn techniques we can use to keep ourselves safe when around dogs.

Room 9 Road safety with Constable Cam
Last week Room 9 has been learning all about road safety with Constable Cam. He has been
teaching us all about keeping safe around roads and how to cross the road by
ourselves - but we aren't allowed to do that until we are old enough - but we
can practice with our Mum or Dad or someone older than us.
First, we shared ideas about how we come to school. We realised how many of us come in cars when we could actually walk! Walking to school is good because ……

We also
practiced crossing the road with Constable Cam.
It was fun sitting in the police car and practicing to wear our seat belts. We got to make it CLICK!!
'Click goes the seat belt before we hit the road.'
We used these ideas in our Written Language.
On Monday, Constable Cam to our class to talk to us about wearing seat belts in car. He told us stories about car safety and wearing seat belts can help us to be safe in the car. He then took us outside in his police car. We sat in his car to practise wearing a seat belt. I also got to wear his police cap. I felt like a police man when i wore his police cap. "CLICK! goes the seat belt before we hit the road."

Room 9 Brazilian Art - Romero Britto Art model
In Room 9 we have been learning about an artist from Brazil, a place where the Olympics games were held this year. He is Romero Britto. He was born in Brazil. His art models are very bright and colourful with bold patterns. He painted what he saw and used colours to express hope and happiness.
In Room 9 we saw clippings of his art models. Then we sketched pictures of different types of fish. We chose fish as our main theme because fish is common in New Zealand.
It was very interesting watching Romero Britto's art work.
We will put up more pictures of our completed art work on our blog. So keep visiting us.
"I will now add bold outlines and add patterns to my picture."

Our Space Exploration
ROOM 9 Space Explorations |
We went to Stardome to learn more about outer space. |
We looked at other planets like Saturn. |
WOW!! Look at its beautiful rings. We are observing to gather more evidence about the planets and other space objects. |
This is another largest planet - Jupiter. Its humongous.
This is our planet Earth. This is where we all live. we call it the Goldilocks planet because it is just the right planet for us to live on.
OUR DAY SKY & NIGHT SKY
Our Night Sky pictures |
We used books, videos about day and night, we used a model of the Earth, Moon and a torch as sun model to see how the Earth's spin causes day and night.
We now know the Sun does not move around. Its the Earth that spins on its axis. The part facing the Sun has day and the part facing away from the Sun has night.
We drew pictures to show day and night on Earth.
We played Sun Moon and Earth game. We moved around to show the Earth's rotation around the Sun and the Moon's rotation around the Earth.
We had a lot of fun playing this space game.
Our Closest Star - The Sun
We made Sun models. We put words about the Sun on our models. We drew pictures about the Sun. We write words about the Sun. we now know a lot about Our Sun.
Our Space Picnic - we imagined we were astronauts. We made a list of things we need to take with us if we go into space for a picnic.
Look at our astronaut model- Thanks to Mrs. Landi our student teacher for helping us with this.
